Catalytic converter

General description

The catalytic converter is a part of system of decrease in the toxicity of the fulfilled gases which is a part of system of production of the fulfilled gases and serves for decrease in issue in the atmosphere of toxic components. There are two types of catalytic converters. The ordinary converter of the oxidizing type reduces the level of content in the fulfilled gases of hydrocarbonic connections and carbon monoxide (SO). The three-functional catalytic converter, on an equal basis with hydrocarbons and WITH, provides decrease in level of nitrogen oxides (NOh).

Check

The diagnostic equipment for check of a condition of the catalytic converter is expensive and extremely difficult in the use. Every time lifting the car with any purpose above the ground, check the catalytic converter for existence of traces of leaks, corrosion, dents and others damage. Also check a condition of welding seams / flange bolts in the place of fastening of the converter to sections of system of production of the fulfilled gases. The damaged catalytic converter has to be replaced without fail.

Though catalytic converters also do not belong to number of often failing car knots, from time to time there is their clogging combustion products. The simplest way of check of passability of the converter is use of the vacuum gage which is connected to the diagnostic union for identification of effect of influence of blocking of release on depression of an admission.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Open a butterfly valve, having resulted the frequency of rotation of the engine in value of 2000 rpm.
  2. Quickly release the gate.
  3. If passability of the converter is not broken, indications of the vacuum gage will quickly fall to value no more than 51 mm of mercury. or is slightly higher than normal value.
  4. If the vacuum gage does not fix depression of 127 mm of mercury in depth. or is higher than its normal value or for a moment hangs in the highest point before return, passability of system of production of the fulfilled gases or the catalytic converter is broken (due to blocking by products of combustion, deformation of sections of pipes or shifts of partitions in the muffler).
