Removal and installation of the distributor

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the radio tape recorder in your car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting a negative wire from the battery make sure that you know this code.

  1. Disunite all clips, electric and nipple sockets on the distributor. Previously mark wires and hoses for a guarantee of their correct installation at assembly.
  2. Find on a distributor cover the acting tag in the form of a letter or figure. Such tag specifies position of the plug of a wire of a spark plug of the first cylinder. If the tag is absent, find a spark plug of the first cylinder and pass on its wire to a distributor cover, having determined by that the required plug on it and draw under it on the distributor case to risk.
  1. Find the plug of a wire of a spark plug of the first cylinder on a distributor cover and draw directly under it on the case to risk.
  1. Uncover the distributor (The head Nastroyki and routine maintenance) and turn the engine so that its runner turned a nose to the tag answering to position of the plug of a wire of a candle of the first cylinder (see the description of the procedure of reduction of the piston of the first cylinder in the provision of VMT in the Head the Line six-cylinder engine).

Distributive tags on the 4.0 l engine.

  1. Make sure of combination of a tag on a damper of tortional fluctuations from risky BMT (TDC) on a cover of a distributive chain at simultaneous turn of the runner of the distributor a nose towards the plug of a wire of a candle of the first cylinder (a tag on the distributor case).
  1. Put on the edge of the distributor case a tag directly opposite to a nose of the runner of the distributor and parallel to its axis (if the runner is equipped with the doubled nose, you put a tag on the center between them). Also put landing tags in the distributor basis for a guarantee of its correct installation at assembly.
  1. Mark position of the runner concerning the distributor case.
  1. Mark position of the case of the distributor in relation to the engine (arrow) (the 5.2 l engine with the inlet pipeline removed for descriptive reasons is shown).
  1. If did not do it yet, disconnect ignition sensor wires.
  2. Give clamping a bolt(s) and remove the distributor.

After removal of the distributor do not turn a bent shaft as it will lead to a rassovmeshcheniye of distributive tags.

Installation

If the bent shaft for any reason (or without it) was turned after removal of the distributor from the engine, the piston of the first cylinder before assembly has to be given to a provision of VMT. It can be done by definition to the touch of the moment of increase of pressure in a candle opening of the cylinder at rotation of a bent shaft. After emergence of compression pressure it is necessary to achieve combination of a zero mark of a distributive scale with an index edge.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Install a sealing ring on the distributor case.
  2. Insert the distributor into a head of cylinders, having oriented it it is absolute also as before removal (see landing tags).

Pay attention that on the 4.0 l engines the distributor is equipped with a clamping bolt which can be screwed in in the engine block uniquely. When lowering the distributor on the place the runner turns a little. It should be considered at installation of the case. On the 5.2 l engines turn the runner before introduction of the distributor to the engine so that it was turned by a nose to a tag on the case (CYL No. 1).

  1. Make sure of the correct combination of landing tags of the basis of the distributor and a head of cylinders. Also check whether the runner to the tag applied on the distributor case during dismantle is turned.
  2. Freely screw clamping a bolt(s).
  3. You make further installation as it should be, the return to a removal order. Check installation of a corner of an advancing of ignition (The head Nastroyki and routine maintenance) and strongly tighten clamping a bolt(s).
