Check of serviceability and service of systems of heating and air conditioning

Constantly in a condition of maximum efficiency the following checks have to be made for support of air conditioning system on a regular basis:

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Check a condition of a driving compressor belt. If the belt is worn-out or damaged, replace it (The head Nastroyki and routine maintenance).
  2. Check effort of a tension of a driving belt and, in case of need, make adjustment (The head Nastroyki and routine maintenance).
  3. Check system hoses for existence of cracks, swellings, traces of aging of material and other damages. Examine the ends of hoses which are put on unions on existence of signs of infiltration and oil. In case of identification of signs of wear, damages or leaks replace a hose(s).
  4. Check gaps between condenser plates for existence in them of the got stuck old leaves, remains of insects and other garbage. Clean gaps by means of a special crest or blow them compressed air.
  5. Check correctness of level of coolant in system.

It is necessary to include system at least once a month for the period of about 10 minutes, especially it belongs to cold season when direct need for conditioning of salon is absent. Long non-use leads to hardening and gradual failure of sealing laying of system.

To reveal leaks in system the easiest after warming up and rise in pressure in it by five-minute inclusion of system in the mode of conditioning of salon at the working engine. Then switch off the engine and carefully examine all hoses of system and their nipple connections. Presence of oil traces usually speaks about existence of leak of coolant.

In view of complexity of a design of system and need of use of the special equipment for its service, deep diagnostics and repair, the description of the listed procedures is not included in this manual. However, the elementary checks and descriptions of procedures of replacement of some components are collected in this Chapter and are offered attention of readers.

If air conditioning system does not function in general, check a condition of its safety locks in the assembly block and the relay of the conditioner which is located in a relay box in a motive compartment.

Most often decrease in efficiency of functioning of system is connected with falling of level of the coolant loaded in it. At noticeable decrease in overall performance of system one of the checks offered below will help to reveal falling of level of coolant quickly.

Check of level of coolant

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Warm up the engine up to the normal working temperature.
  2. Transfer the lever of the choice of temperature condition of functioning of the conditioner to the maximum cold, then turn on the heater fan on a maximum. Open doors (in order to avoid automatic shutdown of system in process of cooling of air in salon).
  3. After turning on of the compressor - the coupling of its coupling will publish well heard click, and its central part will begin to rotate - feel one hand an inlet tube of the evaporator between a tube of the calibrated jet and the evaporator, at the same time pressing the second hand to metal section of a hose between the evaporator and the accumulator (store) (see the Sections Removal and installation of the heat exchanger of a heater and Removal and installation of a tube of the calibrated jet).
  4. The tube going from the calibrated jet to the evaporator has to be to the touch cold, and the output hose - a little more (on 2 – 6 °C) is colder. If an exit is warmer than an entrance, coolant level in system is insufficient (the system is not completed charging). The first of signs of insufficient charging of system is the condition of the air car which is coming out sleeves in salon. If air not cold as it has to be, system needs charging. More detailed diagnostics of a condition of system demands use of the special equipment and lies outside qualification of the average amateur mechanic.
  5. If the inlet tube is covered with hoarfrost, the surfaces of the accumulator are to the touch colder, the system also needs recharge.

Refueling of system coolant

Acquire in shop of automobile accessories special set for charging of the air conditioning system. The valve valve (faucet) and a short hose connected between the gate and the working valve in a low pressure part of system enter set a canister with coolant (refrigerator oil) of 12 ounces (340 g). As one canister of coolant it can appear insufficiently for final charging of system, it makes sense to get couple of spare in advance. Make sure that one of canisters contains refrigerator oil of red color. In case of leaks in system the reddish shade of coolant will help to reveal their source.

Do not add more than two canisters of coolant in system at all.


The basic charging set for 134a systems can always be got in shops of automobile accessories - on packing surely there has to be an index 134 and (not R-12), the canister from 340 g (12 ounces) of refrigerator oil also has to be applied.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Following the instructions attached to set, collect a charging set.

Do not try to connect a hose of a charging set to the high-pressure party of system AT ALL! It is necessary to notice that the design of the union and does not allow to make it.

  1. Give a flywheel of the valve valve (faucet) of charging set and connect set to a canister with coolant. Track that in a carving part of the union the sealing ring was established.

During the work with a canister in which coolant is under pressure put on goggles.

  1. Remove a boot from the charging union of a low pressure part of system (directly over a broad tank of the cooling system)
  1. Add coolant to the low pressure union of the air conditioning system.
  1. Warm up the engine and turn on the air conditioner. Try not to allow contact of a hose from charging set with blades of the fan of the cooling system and other moving components in a motive compartment. Charging of system demands rotation of its compressor. If the clutch coupling of the compressor is periodically disconnected, disunite the electric socket of the cyclic switch on the accumulator (store) and connect a wire crossing point. It will force the compressor to work in the continuous mode.
  1. Remove the cyclic switch from the block of the accumulator and connect its socket directly to the battery by means of a wire from set for start of the engine from an auxiliary source – it will allow to avoid periodic shutdown of the compressor.
  1. Turn the set valve handle so that its core pierced a canister mouth membrane, then return the handle in initial provisions, having taken out a core from an opening and having provided pass through the last of coolant. At the same time hissing of the passing gas has to be heard. Add coolant to a low pressure part of system in the small portions until temperatures of surfaces of the accumulator and an inlet tube of the evaporator are made even. Before each following giving leave time for stabilization of system.
  2. In the presence of the exact thermometer it is possible to enter it into the central sleeve of the conditioner in interior of the car and to constantly trace temperature of the coming-out air. Regularly functioning correctly loaded air conditioning system has to cool air up to the temperature about 4,5 °C. If the ambient temperature (external air) is very high, for example about 44 °C, temperature of the air which is coming out a sleeve can reach 15,7 °C. The ostuzheniye of external air on 17 - 28 °C is normal.
  3. After emptying of a canister turn a faucet in a closed position and disconnect a hose from the low pressure union of system. Establish into place an union boot.
  4. Disconnect set from a canister and you store before the following gas station of system. The piercing core of the valve has to be involved in order to avoid unexpected piercing of a crossing point of a mouth of a new canister at the next assembly of set.
