Check of a condition of the block of the engine

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Before starting check of a condition of the block of its engine it is necessary to clear carefully (see the Section Cleaning of the Block of the Engine).
  2. Make external survey of the block on existence in it of cracks and traces of corrosion. Check bolted openings for existence of failures of a carving. It is also quite good to make check of the block on existence of the hidden cracks in the conditions of auto repair shop where for this purpose there is a special equipment. In case of detection of defects it is necessary to make repair of the block (if it is possible) or its replacement.
  3. Check mirrors of cylinders for existence of scratches and zadir.
  4. Measure diameter of everyone of their cylinders in its top part (directly under border of area of step wear), in the middle of height and is closer to the lower cut. You perform measurements in the plane passing through an axis of a bent shaft.
  1. Measurement of diameter of the cylinder is performed to coaxially bent shaft in three cross sections - under border of area of step wear (A), in a middle part (V) and over the lower cut (C).
  1. Then measure diameter of cylinders in the same planes, but across an axis of a bent shaft. Compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications.
  2. In the absence of access to exact measuring tools the gap between the piston and walls of the cylinder can be defined (the truth less authentically) by means of the special measuring probe of lezviyny type. The probe has to be equipped with a set of edges of various thickness about 30.5 cm long and it is possible to get it practically in any shop of auto parts.
  3. For definition of a gap choose the probe of necessary thickness and enter it between the piston and a wall of the cylinder. The piston has to be located in the cylinder also as it settles down during normal work. The edge of the probe is densely entered into a gap between the piston and a wall of the cylinder on one of persistent surfaces (under 90 ° to an opening under a piston finger).
  4. After introduction of an edge the piston has to slide in the cylinder with a moderate resistance.
  5. If the piston fails, or slides too freely, then its replacement is required. If jamming of the piston happens only in the lower part of the cylinder at free sliding above, conicity of the cylinder is available. Change of density of landing of the probe in the cylinder at rotation of the piston (together with the probe) in the cylinder speaks about existence of ovality of the last.
  6. Repeat the procedure for all remained pistons and cylinders.
  7. In the presence on mirrors of cylinders of deep scratches or strong zadir or in a case identification exceeding admissible values of conicity or ovality the block has to be sent to a workshop for a pro-point and a honingovaniye of cylinders. After carrying out a pro-point of cylinders the block complete set is made by pistons and piston rings of the new, repair sizes.
  8. If mirrors of cylinders are found in satisfactory condition and their wear lies in admissible limits, and also at compliance of sizes of gaps between pistons and walls of their cylinders to requirements of Specifications, the pro-point of cylinders is not required. Everything that has to be made - a honingovaniye of mirrors (Undressed Honingovaniye of cylinders).
  9. Engines can be equipped with components of one of three types of the standard size (nominal, with excess and with belittling). For example cylinders can have the size with excess, necks of radical and conrod bearings - with belittling, and camshaft bearings - with excess. On such engines of a surface of the block, a bent shaft or a cavity of pushers the digital or alphabetic code specifying the size fabrichno of the installed pistons is beaten out. On V8 engines on a counterbalance of the eighth crank of the size equipped with necks with belittling of a bent shaft alphabetic indexes "M" or "R" are put down. The M-2-3 code says that the second and third radical necks have the size with belittling in 0,025 mm while the letter "R" in a code speaks about belittling of the size of conrod necks.
  10. Engines with nests of pushers of the exceeded size usually are marked by the tag having the form of diamond and which is beaten out on the platform in the top part of a forward wall of the block whereas the X index which is beaten out on the platform at an end face of a head of cylinders means installation of valves with size cores with excess (0,127 mm).
  1. The bent shaft of the V8 engine can be marked with the alphanumeric code which is beaten out on a counterbalance of the eighth crank and saying that the shaft is equipped radical (a tag of "M") or conrod (a tag of "R") size necks with belittling.
