Removal and installation of heads of cylinders



  1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
  2. Empty the cooling system (The head Nastroyki and routine maintenance).
  3. Uncover heads of cylinders (The section Removal and installation of covers of heads of cylinders). Remove the inlet pipeline (The section Removal and installation of the inlet pipeline).
  4. Disconnect from heads both a final collector (The section Removal and installation of final collectors).
  5. Remove assemblies of yokes and a bar of pushers (The section Removal, check of a state and installation of yokes and bars of pushers).

Put all components in the organized order guaranteeing their installation at assembly on the former places.

  1. Working as it should be, return offered on an illustration 9.16, weaken bolts of heads, giving them on 1/4 turns for each approach by means of a collar until the possibility of their vyvinchivaniye manually appears. For fastening of heads two types of the bolts differing on length are used - shorter are established outside.
  2. Remove heads from the engine. If the head does not separate from the block, do not try to hook it the lever as it is fraught with damage of the interfaced surfaces. Instead apply wooden whetstone to a head end face and knock on it with the hammer. As a last resort the head can be hooked for a casting ledge. Lay the removed heads on wooden blocks so that the possibility of damage of their interfaced surfaces was excluded.

  1. Before installation it is necessary to smooth out carefully interfaced surfaces of heads and the block. Special solvents are produced - ask in shops of automobile accessories.
  2. By means of a pro-masonry scraper remove all traces of a deposit and material of old laying from the interfaced surfaces, then wipe surfaces with the rags moistened in acetone. If at installation to leave oil marks on the interfaced surfaces, it will lead to emergence in the near future of leaks. When performing on the block of any works cover a cavity where pushers by rags in order to avoid hit are installed in the engine of sawdust, garbage and other foreign objects. For removal of small garbage from cylinders use the vacuum cleaner.
  3. Check the interfaced surfaces of the block and heads for existence of zadir, agnails, scratches and other damages. Insignificant defects can be eliminated by processing of a surface with an emery paper. At larger damages it is necessary to give to resort to machining (milling) of surfaces.
  4. Banish carving openings in the block a tap of the required size. Serially clamping each of bolts a head in a vice, pass their carvings lerky, having removed traces of corrosion and having restored the damaged carving rounds. Left in a carving dirt, traces of corrosion and sealant and defects of rounds will affect reliability of determination of effort of tightening of fixture.
  5. Establish new laying on the directing pins on the block.
  1. Establish new laying of a head on each of cans of the block of cylinders, having put on it the directing pins.
  1. Carefully install heads on the engine, trying not to shift at the same time laying.
  2. Before installation of bolts of heads grease their carving with noncongealable sealant like Permatex No. 2 or its equivalent.
  3. Establish bolts on the former places and tighten them, at first by hand. Working in the order recommended on an accompanying illustration tighten bolts in several stages with the required effort.

Order of tightening of bolts of a head of cylinders.

  1. You make further installation as it should be, the return to a removal order. As it was already mentioned in the Section Removal, check of a state and installation of yokes and bars of pushers, after tightening of yokes before the first start of the engine let's hydraulic pushers "settle" within not less than 5 minutes.
  2. Fill in a cooler and replace motive oil and an oil filter (The head Nastroyki and routine maintenance). Start the engine and check it for serviceability of functioning and existence of signs of leakages of a cooler and oil.

Do not lift the speed of rotation of the engine above turns of bystry idling until hydraulic pushers are not filled with oil and again will not begin to work silently.
