Removal, check of a state and installation of a cover of a distributive chain, chain and its asterisks

Definition of a weak point of a distributive chain (a cover - on the engine)

Implementation of this procedure will allow you to estimate the size of a weak point of a distributive chain without removal from the engine of its cover.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
  2. Bring the piston of the first cylinder of the engine into the provision of VMT (The section Reduction in the provision of VMT of the piston of the first cylinder).
  3. Holding the piston on a compression step, establish it in situation about 30 ° before VMT.
  4. Uncover the distributor (The head Nastroyki and routine maintenance).
  5. For ensuring desirable accuracy of check it is necessary to turn a bent shaft manually, very slowly by means of the semi-inch drive with a collar, connected to the replaceable face head of the required big diameter which is put on a big bolt in the center of a pulley of a shaft.
  6. Slowly turn a bent shaft clockwise until the piston of the first cylinder does not move to the provision of VMT. Thus the left part of a distributive chain has to sag. Do not turn a shaft further, but also do not return back it.
  7. Mark position of its runner on the distributor case.
  8. Slowly turn a shaft counterclockwise before emergence of the movement of the runner of the distributor. Stop and under the provision of tags of an advancing of ignition (distributive) check how far the bent shaft left from the provision of VMT of the piston of the first cylinder.
  9. If the tag moved more than on 10 °, the distributive chain is worn-out excessively. For more exact check uncover a chain.

Removal of a cover of a distributive chain

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the auxiliary units (such as the pump of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel, the generator and the compressor of the conditioner of air) limiting access to a cover of a distributive chain. Leave hoses connected to the compressor of the conditioner and the pump of the hydraulic booster and fix units aside (The section Removal and installation of the inlet pipeline).
  2. Remove an arm of hinged units from a forward wall of the engine.
  1. Remove hinged units, then an air conditioner generator/compressor arm.
  1. Remove the water pump (The head of the Cooling system, heating and air conditioning).
  2. Give two forward bolts of the pallet of a case which are screwed in in a chain cover - it is the simplest to reach bolts from under the car.

In spite of the fact that this procedure can be performed without removal of the pallet of a case, most likely during removal to a cover the integral, reinforced by metal laying of the pallet will be damaged. If it does not occur, laying can be used and further after greasing of its lobby contacting to a part chain cover sealant however only a reliable guarantee of prevention of emergence of leaks in the future is replacement of laying of the pallet (The section Removal and installation of the pallet of a case).

  1. Give the remained fixing bolts and separate a cover of a distributive chain from the block and the pallet of a case. The cover can be "stuck" to the block. In this case it is necessary to destroy by means of a spackling knife a sealant layer between the interfaced surfaces. Do not try to separate a cover by means of the lever AT ALL - easy to damage it!

Locations of bolts of fastening of a cover of a distributive chain.

  1. Remove an oil separator from a pin of a bent shaft (if that is provided). Remember how the oil separator was established on a shaft - at assembly situation it should not be changed. It makes sense to replace a forward epiploon of a bent shaft (Section Replacement of a Forward Epiploon of a Bent Shaft) at this stage.

Check of a condition of a distributive chain and gear wheel (it is uncovered the engine)

  1. Put on a camshaft asterisk bolt a replaceable face head as a part of a dynamometer key and apply to a shaft torque in the direction of normal rotation (if heads of cylinders with yokes are left on the engine, the moment has to make 41 N • m if are removed - 20 N • м). Do not allow a shaft provorachivaniye! By means of a ruler record position of a docking finger of a link of a chain on an asterisk and replace the direction of torque. Determine shift size by a ruler and estimate the general movement of a chain. If shift makes more than 3 mm, the chain needs to be replaced.

Replacement of a chain means replacement of all set of the drive of the gas-distributing mechanism (a chain, an asterisk of the camshaft and an asterisk of a bent shaft).


  1. Apply a ruler to a chain for measurement of the weak point arising in it when applying torque to a camshaft asterisk bolt.
  1. Check of an asterisk of knee and distributive shaft on existence of damages and signs of wear.

Removal of a chain

  1. Make sure of combination of distributive tags and give a camshaft asterisk bolt.
  1. Combine distributive tags of asterisks of distributive and cranked shaft.
  1. Remove asterisks of distributive and knee shaft it can be made by means of a three-gripping stripper or two screw-drivers, but it is necessary to be careful not to damage a carving in an opening in an end face of a bent shaft.

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. By means of a pro-masonry scraper remove all traces of material of old laying and sealant from the interfaced surfaces of a cover and the block. Stop up the formed opening in a forward part of the pallet of a case with rags in order to avoid hit in the engine of foreign objects and garbage. Take out semicircular rubber consolidation from a forward part of the pallet of a case. Wipe the interfaced surfaces of a cover with the rags moistened in acetone.
  2. At installation of a new asterisk of a bent shaft take care of combination of its shponochny groove with a spline in a shaft pin.

Replacement of a distributive chain is made in a set with asterisks. Installation of a new chain on old asterisks is inadmissible. Having combined a shponochny groove with a spline, put on an asterisk a shaft pin, having pressed it into place by means of a bolt of a damper of tortional fluctuations with the big washer which is put on it. For rotation of a bolt use a replaceable head with the drive. It is alternatively possible to begin to knock accurately an asterisk on a pin the hammer.


In case of resistance to landing of an asterisk to a shaft it is not necessary to use force is though can lead to putting on of an asterisk, however it is fraught with imperceptible damage of components which is in the future capable to develop, having caused serious breakage of the engine.

  1. Put on a new chain a camshaft asterisk, then turn an asterisk a distributive tag down. Put on a chain an asterisk of a bent shaft and establish a camshaft asterisk on its pin. In case of need turn the camshaft so that its spline correctly was combined with a groove under it in the asterisk turned by a distributive tag for 6 hours. After installation of a chain of a tag of asterisks HAVE TO be combined as shown in an illustration.

At combination of distributive tags of asterisks in the provision of VMT there is a piston of the sixth cylinder.


  1. Establish a camshaft asterisk with the chain which is put on it on the place on a shaft pin, previously having turned its distributive tag (shooter) down.
  1. The spline of the camshaft has to be combined with a groove under it in the asterisk turned by a distributive tag for 6 hours (down).
  1. Grease a camshaft asterisk bolt carving with sealant for fixing of threaded connections and tighten a bolt with the required effort.
  2. Oil a chain pure motive.
  3. If the forward epiploon of a bent shaft allowed leaks, replace it new (Section Replacement of a Forward Epiploon of a Bent Shaft). If replacement of an epiploon is made on the distributive chain uncovered the engine, lay a cover on pair of wooden blocks and beat out from it an old epiploon inside by means of a drift and the hammer.

Try not to scratch walls of a nest of an epiploon and not to leave on them zadir and agnails. Begin to knock a new epiploon in a cover by means of the hammer and a replaceable head of the corresponding size.

  1. Before installation to a cover into place check the integral laying of the pallet of a case reinforced by metal for existence of cuts or deformation. If laying is damaged, it should be replaced (The section Removal and installation of the pallet of a case) before starting installation of a cover of a chain.
  2. Grease both parties of new laying of a cover and corners of the pallet and block with RTV sealant and apply laying to the engine. Sealant will hold it on the block.

If the pallet was removed for laying replacement, establish a forward cover (a cover of a distributive chain) of the engine before installing into place the pallet with its laying.

  1. Install a cover of a distributive chain on the block. Insert bolts of fastening of a cover (except for those which serve for fastening of the water pump) and tighten them by hand.
  2. Install the water pump, having replaced its laying and tighten bolts of fastening of a cover of a chain with the required effort.
  3. Establish bolts of the pallet of a case and press the pallet to a chain cover.
  4. Grease the surface of a nave of a damper of tortional fluctuations contacting to an epiploon with pure motive oil, then establish a damper on a pin of a bent shaft. Track the correct combination of a shponochny groove of a damper with a shaft spline. If it is not possible to put a damper on a shaft manually, put on a big washer its bolt and press a damper on a pin, tightening a bolt a face key. Remove an auxiliary washer from a bolt and tighten it with the required effort.
  5. You make further installation as it should be, the return to a removal order.
  6. Add a cooler in system and check the level of motive oil. Start the engine and check it for leak of oil and a cooler.
