Change of motive oil and oil filter (each 4800 km (3000 miles) of a run or time in 3 months)

Regular and frequent changes of motive oil and oil filter are the most important preventive procedure of routine maintenance of the car lying in competence of the amateur mechanic. Its importance is defined by a tendency of engine oils to fluidifying eventually that results in premature wear of internal components of the engine.

In spite of the fact that some sources recommend to make change of an oil filter only every second change of oil, authors of this manual, based on insignificance of cost of the new filter and relative simplicity of implementation of the procedure, and also in view of relevancy of the brought benefit, advise to change the filter every time when changing motive oil.

Prepare all materials and tools, necessary for implementation of this procedure.

Tools and materials necessary for performance of change of motive oil and oil filter.

1 — Drain capacity - has to be superficial, but rather wide for the containment of all volume of the merged oil and prevention of its passage
2 — Rubber gloves - When unscrewing a drain stopper and an oil filter oil inevitably gets on hands (gloves will help to avoid burns)
3 — the Collar - In certain cases the drain stopper with great difficulty gives in an otdavaniya and a collar in a combination to a replaceable head is designed to facilitate implementation of the procedure
4 — the Replaceable face head - In combination with a collar or the ratchet drive is used for an otdavaniye of a drain stopper (has to correspond to it by the size - preferably use of 6 inch heads)
5 — the Key for screwing together of an oil filter - Such, tape type the key demands existence of sufficient free space around the filter

For collecting the spilled oil near at hand it is necessary to have near at hand enough rags, old newspapers or paper towels. Do not perform any works under the car, the lifted state recorded in only by means of a jack(s) at all!

If you are going to start the first in the life independent change of oil and the filter, previously get acquainted with an arrangement of all components (an oil filter and a drain stopper) concerning the forthcoming operation. In the course of carrying out work the engine and sections of system of release will be warmed up to the considerable temperatures therefore it is necessary to think over each movement in order to avoid a touch to hot surfaces in advance.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Warm up the engine up to the normal working temperature. It is reasonable to spend time necessary for warming up of the engine for preparation for work of all necessary materials and tools. The required oil grade for the conditions which are really taking place can be picked up by means of information provided in subsection the Recommended lubricants and liquids at the beginning of this Chapter.
  2. After motive oil is rather heated-up (in the warmed state it follows from the engine easier and better washes away all slime which accumulated in a case), the car and establish to a poddomkratta it on props. Remember that safety - above all!
  3. Place all necessary materials, rags, newspapers and tools under the car. Install the prepared capacity under a drain opening in the case pallet. Having capacity you remember that at the beginning oil will follow under a certain pressure, but in process of decrease of its quantity, the stream will gradually weaken, changing respectively the trajectory.
  4. Trying not to touch the warmed surfaces of system of release, use a cap or face key for an otdavaniye of the drain stopper which is in the lowest point of the pallet of a case. Depending on that, oil is how strongly warmed, you can use or not on a closing stage of a vyvinchivaniye of a stopper protective gloves.

The drain stopper is in the lower part of the pallet of a case of the engine and has to be unscrewed by means of a replaceable face head or a cap key - do not apply a rozhkovy key to a stopper vyvinchivaniye - it is fraught with a rounding off of corners of a head of a stopper.

  1. Let's oil flow down completely in drain capacity. Perhaps, in process of weakening of a pressure of a stream it will be required to move capacity a little.
  2. After oil stops following from a case wipe a drain stopper with pure rags. Otherwise, the small metal sawdust which stuck to a stopper will lead to immediate pollution of fresh oil.
  3. Wipe a surface around a drain opening and establish into place a stopper, having strongly tightened it a key. If the dynamometer key is available, tighten a stopper with the required effort.
  4. Move drain capacity under an oil filter.
  5. For a reversing of the filter use one of types of special keys (see an illustration). Use of a key of chain or tape type can lead to irreversible destruction of the filter, however it has no special value as it anyway is subject to replacement.
  6. Completely remove the old filter. Be careful - it will be filled with oil. Merge oil from the filter in capacity.
  7. By comparison make sure of compliance of types of old and new filters each other.
  8. Wipe with pure rags a landing surface under the filter on the engine block, having removed from it all traces of oil and stuck dirt and slime. Having examined the removed filter, make sure that its rubber laying did not remain stuck to the engine block. If it occurred, remove laying from the block (use a small lamp for simplification of the procedure).
  9. Grease laying of the new filter with a thin layer of pure motive oil.
  10. Following the instructions of the manufacturer given on packing of the new filter, install the last on the engine. Most of manufacturers warn against use for twisting of the filter of any type of keys in order to avoid damage of sealing laying owing to tightening with excessive effort.
  11. Take from under the car all tools, rags, newspapers, drain capacity, trying not to spill from the last oil, then lower the car on the earth.
  12. Move to motive and find a cover of a mouth of the gulf of oil.
  13. In order to avoid spraying, fill in oil in a mouth through a funnel.
  14. Fill in about 4 (3,7) l of oil in the engine. Wait several minutes, having allowed oil to flow down in the pallet, then check its level on the measuring probe (The section of Check of levels of liquids (each 400 km (250 miles) of a run or weekly)). If the level of oil is above the mark ADD (to Add), start the engine, having provided circulation on it fresh oil.
  15. Let's the engine work within about 1 minute, then switch off it. At once glance under the car and make sure of lack of traces of leak of oil around a drain stopper and an oil filter. In case of need tighten components.
  16. After new oil protsirkulirovat on the engine and filled the filter again check its level on the probe. If necessary make having added.

During the first several trips after change of motive oil as often as possible pay attention to existence of signs of leaks and regularly check oil level.

The old oil merged from the engine in its present state to the repeated use is not subject and has to be handed over in utilization. Special utilization points and workshops of car service usually accept working off which after refinement can be used further. After the merged oil cools down it has to be poured in suitable, it is desirable hermetically closed container for transportation in place of acceptance.
