Check of a condition of candle wires, a cover and the runner of the distributor (each 48 000 km (30 000 miles) of a run, or time in two years)

Check of a condition of candle wires has to be made regularly according to the schedule of routine maintenance of the car, and also every time when replacing spark plugs.

In order to avoid a pereputyvaniye of wires at connection check each of them serially.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect a wire from the first candle. For this purpose undertake only a tip (cover) of a wire and pull it, at the same time slightly turning. It is not necessary to undertake and pull for a wire at all.
  2. Check internally tip cover walls for existence of traces of corrosion (as a fragile crust of white color). Again put on a tip a candle shaft. The tip has to keep on a shaft rather hardly. If it not so, remove a tip and nippers carefully turn in the metal plug in it so that the last densely kept on a candle shaft.
  3. Wipe with pure rags a wire on all length, having removed from it all mud deposits and traces of lubricant. After cleaning of a wire check it for existence of breakdowns, progar, cracks of isolation and other damages. Do not bend a wire excessively as it can lead to its break.
  4. Disconnect a wire from a distributor cover. Again pull only for a tip, but not for a wire. Also as before check a tip for reliability of fastening on the plug and existence of traces of corrosion and other damages. Connect a wire to the distributor cover plug.
  5. On one check a condition of wires of the remained spark plugs, watching reliability of fastening of wires on candles and plugs of a cover of the distributor after completion of check).
  6. If replacement of candle wires is required, it is necessary to get the wires suitable is concrete for the engine of your car. In the sets of a wire offered for sale are usually already cut on length and are equipped with tips. Remove and replace each wire separately in order to avoid the wrong order of their connection (which observance is extremely important for normal functioning of the engine).
  7. Give screws of fastening of a cover of the distributor. On V8 engines for ensuring access it will be required to disconnect vacuum lines of system of recirculation of the fulfilled gases (EGR) and electric sockets. Delay a cover with the wires connected to it up, having separated it from the case of the distributor and put aside.
  8. Now the runner on the end of a shaft of the distributor becomes well visible. Carefully check it for existence of cracks and coal paths. Make sure of adequacy of the effort developed by a spring of the central plug and examine a runner nose regarding identification of traces of corrosion and wear. In case of lack of confidence in definition of a condition of the runner replace it.
  1. The runner of the distributor has to be checked for existence of wear tracks and corrosion, as shown in the drawing (in case of lack of confidence in definition of a condition of the runner, replace it).
  1. If carrying out replacement is required, remove the runner from a shaft and establish new on its place. The runner in a tightness is put on a shaft and can be removed by a poddevaniye by any lever.
  2. The runner can be installed on a distributor shaft uniquely. The runner installed in a tightness is equipped with the built-in directing spline which at installation has to be combined with a groove on the end of a shaft (or on the contrary).
  3. Check a distributor cover for existence of coal paths, cracks and other damages. Attentively check plugs in a cover for existence of signs of corrosion and damages. Existence of insignificant deposits is admissible. Again, in case of lack of confidence in assessment of a condition of a cover just replace it. Before installation of a cover into place do not forget to apply a little silicone lubricant on each of plugs. Track also correctness of installation in a cover of a coal brush (the central plug) - excessively wide gap between a brush and the runner can be the reason of a burn-out of the runner and/or damage of a cover of the distributor.
Cases of the most typical defects which are found at survey of a cover of the distributor (in case of lack of confidence in definition of a condition of a cover, replace it with new) are given in the drawing.
  1. For replacement just uncover it the distributor and on one rearrange from it candle wires on the prepared new cover. Do not allow violation of an order of connection of wires at all!
  2. Install a cover on the distributor and fix it by screws.
