Service of the cooling system (depletion, washing and filling) (each 48 000 km (30 000 miles) of a run, or time in two years)

Antifreeze is aggressive and poisonous liquid therefore it is necessary to avoid hit it on open parts of the body and the painted surfaces of the car. Immediately wash away incidentally got splashes a plentiful amount of water. Do not leave a cooler spilled on a floor of a garage or stored in an open container - the sweetish smell of antifreeze can easily draw to itself attention of children and animals. Hit even of insignificant quantity of a cooler in an organism is fraught with serious consequences, up to a lethal outcome. Before starting discharge of a cooler consult in dealer office about rules of its utilization. In many regions special points on reception of poisonous working off of internal combustion engines are created.

In order to avoid development of corrosion and different formation of the deposits influencing overall performance of the engine and capable to become the reason of its damage to result of an overheat, it is regularly necessary to make depletion of the cooling system, its washing and filling with fresh mix. During service of the cooling system the condition of all its hoses and a cover of a radiator has to be checked. Replacement of defective components is in case of need made.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Cock the parking brake and block (wedges) of a wheel.

If the car was just used before getting to work wait for several hours necessary for cooling of the engine.

  1. Establish under the drain union of a radiator the capacity of large volume for reception of a cooler in it. The drain stopper of a radiator on the models equipped with 6-cylinder engines is located in the right lower part of a radiator, on models with the V8 engine - at the left. If it is obviously possible, put on the drain union a hose with a diameter about 10 mm for the most exact correction of the direction of a stream of the following liquid in drain capacity, then open the union gate (for its turn perhaps it is necessary to use flat-nose pliers).
  2. After full depletion of a broad tank of system uncover a radiator, having provided discharge of liquid and from it. Then move capacity under a drain stopper of the block of the engine - on the V8 engine from each party of the block there is about one such stopper, on the 6-cylinder engine the stopper is located on the right wall of the block. Remove a stopper let's a cooler flow down from the block.

Often the cooler does not begin to follow from the block after removal of a stopper. Obstruction of a drain opening a rust of which crossing point is formed behind a stopper at once appears the reason of this phenomenon usually. Punch a crossing point the screw-driver.


On 6-cylinder engines the drain stopper (arrow) is located on the left wall of the block, directly under a final collector.

On V8 engines the block of cylinders is equipped with two drain stoppers - on one from each of the parties.

  1. While the cooler follows check a condition of radiator hoses, hoses of a heater and all hose collars (see the Section Check of a State and Replacement of the hoses passing under a cowl (each 4800 km (3000 miles) of a run or times in 3 months)).
  2. Replace all damaged hoses and collars.
  3. After final depletion of system wash out a radiator fresh water from a garden hose. Continue washing until clear water does not begin to follow from a radiator. The stream of water will remove traces of deposits from internal surfaces of a radiator, but cannot bring products of corrosion and a scum out of system.
  4. The last of the mentioned products are removed in the chemical way by means of a special cleaner - follow instructions of manufacturers. In case of serious corrosion or damage of a radiator it should be removed (The head of the Cooling system, heating and air conditioning) and to send to special repair shop.
  5. Disconnect an overflow hose of a radiator from a broad tank and wash out a tank clear water, then connect a hose into place.
  6. Close and tighten the gate of the drain union of a radiator. Establish into place and tighten a drain stopper (i) of the block of the engine.
  7. Transfer the handle of management of heater operating modes to the maximum situation.
  8. Slowly add in a radiator a fresh cooler (50% antifreeze mix with water). Continue the gulf before filling of a radiator. Add a cooler to a broad tank of system to its lower tag.
  9. Having left a cover of a radiator opened, start the engine (the car has to be installed in well ventilated room or in the open air). Wait for opening of the thermostat (the cooler will begin to circulate on a radiator and the top hose of the last will get warm).
  10. Switch off the engine and let's it cool down. Add necessary quantity of a cooler for rise in its level aflush with sponges of a jellied mouth of a radiator.
  11. Squeeze the top hose of a radiator, having distilled from it air, then, in case of need, add still a cooler. Establish into place a radiator cover.
  12. Start the engine, let's it get warm up to the normal working temperature and check system for existence of leaks.
