Check of a state, adjustment of a tension and replacement of a driving belt (each 12 000 km (7500 miles) of a run, or time in 6 months)

Check

Driving (or as it is often called, V-shaped, or just "ventilatory") the belt is located in a forward part of the engine and plays an important role in providing it and all auxiliary units of functioning. In view of the nature of the use and the nature of material of which it is made, the belt is exposed to some physical changes and its condition, as well as adjustment of a tension, in order to avoid serious damages of the engine eventually, have to be checked and be corrected regularly.

On these models of cars the only driving belt of tape type setting the generator, the pump of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel and the compressor of the conditioner of air in motion is used.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. At the switched-off engine open a cowl and find the driving belt which is in a forward part of the engine. By means of a small lamp carefully examine a belt on all length, checking it for existence of stratifications, cracks, separations of tapes from a sticky basis, gaps and wear of tapes, cracks on inner edges of tapes and other damages and defects. The condition of a belt from both of its parties has to be checked what means need of a reversing of each of the examined sites of a belt inside out. Sites of a belt inaccessible to survey have to are carefully checked to the touch. In case of identification of any of above-mentioned defects the belt is subject to replacement (you pass to the item. "For replacement of a belt..." or "For weakening of a tension of a belt...").
  1. Existence only of small cross cracks on inside of a V-shaped belt is admissible - at detection of the longitudinal cracks or the separated pieces which are a source of foreign sounds during the work of a belt demands replacement of the last.

Adjustment

The tension of a driving belt of 6-cylinder engines is checked by means of the special measuring instrument hooked for the middle of the direct site of a belt between a pulley of the pump of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel and a tension roller. Compare instrument readings to requirements of Specifications at the beginning of this Chapter.

If you have an opportunity to use the measuring instrument of effort of a tension of a belt of Nippondenso or Burroughs, in the drawing is shown how to use each of them - compare indications of scales of devices to requirements of Specifications (only for 6-cylinder engines).

Adjustment of a tension of a belt is carried out by weakening of an axial bolt of a pulley of the pump of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel, a lock-nut and lock bolts, then it is necessary to turn an adjusting bolt counterclockwise for easing of effort of a tension, or clockwise - for increase. Repeat the procedure before obtaining satisfactory result, then shade a lock-nut and bolts.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. On the models equipped with 6-cylinder engines weaken bolts of a pulley of a naos of the power steering and turn an adjusting bolt of a natyazhitel in the relevant party for increase or easing of effort of a tension of a belt.
  1. On the models equipped with V8 engines by effort of a tension of a belt the sprung natyazhitel operates and need for regular adjustment of a tension is absent. If the arrow of the index on a back wall of a natyazhitel is rejected from a control tag on a casing of a natyazhitel more than on 3,2 mm, the belt should be replaced.
  1. Natyazhitel of a belt of tape type applied on V8 engines automatically supports effort of its tension, however, in limited limits - the arrow of the index on a casing of a natyazhitel (V) should not deviate further a point And on a casing.

Replacement

6-cylinder engines

Make all procedures performed by preparation for adjustment of its tension for replacement of a belt, however, in conclusion take off a belt from a pulley of a bent shaft and take it from a motive compartment. At installation of a new belt track correctness of its laying as violation can lead it to rotation of a water wheel in the opposite direction. V8 engines

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. For weakening of a tension of a belt turn a natyazhitel by means of a face head on 3/8 inches (9,53 mm) clockwise. After weakening of a tension of a belt the natyazhitel will deviate down. Take off a belt and carefully release a natyazhitel. Put on a new belt pulleys, again having turned for this purpose a natyazhitel. Release a natyazhitel. Remember that violation of correctness of laying of a belt can lead to rotation of the water pump in the opposite direction that will cause a bystry overheat of the engine. The scheme of laying of a driving belt is given in Schild, fixed on a fan casing.
  1. Weaken effort of a tension of a belt, having turned a natyazhitel clockwise by means of the key which is put on its bolt.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Take the taken-off old belt with yourself in shop for comparison with it new - belts have to correspond each other on a design, length and width.
  2. When replacing a driving belt you watch correctness of its installation in flutes of pulleys. Correctness of centering of a belt on pulleys is of great importance for reliability of its functioning.
  3. Adjust a tension of a new belt according to indications of the above-stated points.
