Safety cushion - the general information

These cars are equipped with auxiliary restrictive system (SRS), a thicket the called safety cushion. The design of system allows to prevent receiving serious injuries by the driver in case of front blow of the car. The system consists of the module of a safety cushion located in the central part of a steering wheel, two sensors of blow fixed in a forward part of the car and module of the management which is also including the sensor of the blow located in interior of the car.

Safety cushion module

The module of management of a safety cushion (shooter) is located under the console - be convinced that the yellow socket is not disconnected from it.

The module of a pillow consists of the air bag (pillow) and the device of its naduv placed in a casing. Assembly of the device of a naduv of a pillow is fixed on a back part of a casing over an opening in which the gas inflating a bag almost instantly on an electric signal of system is supplied. In a special way the curled wire transmitting this signal to the module carries the name of an hour spring. The spring is twisted from a flat metal electrowire tape which at turn of a steering wheel is twisted and untwisted, keeping ability to signal transmission irrespective of the provision of a wheel.

Sensors

The system is equipped with three sensors: two of them (blow sensors) are located on a car front behind a bumper, third (safety) is in the module of management between in the central console front seats of the car.

Forward sensors of blow represent the sensors switches, sensitive to change of pressure, which are carrying out short circuit of an electric chain at emergence of shock loading of the set size. The electric signal from sensors of blow is sent to the safety sensor in the module of management which finally closes a chain, providing having inflated pillows.

Module of management (ASDM)

ASDM consists of the safety sensor and the onboard microprocessor exercising control of functioning of system. Control is exercised at each start of the engine, providing inclusion of an alarm lamp of AIRBAG (safety cushion) for a short time (that speaks about serviceability of system). If in system there are malfunctions, the lamp remains included and the module of management of a security system (ASDM) fixes the corresponding code in the memory. If the alarm lamp does not die away after start of the engine, the car immediately should be driven away for performing diagnostics of system in dealer office of the Chrysler company.

Shutdown of system

When carrying out any works in the neighborhood of a steering wheel, a column or near other components of the SRS system, she (system) has to be temporarily brought from a ready state. For what it is necessary to take the following steps:

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Turn the ignition key in position of OFF.
  2. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
  3. Wait for at least two minutes necessary for a discharge of the condenser playing a role of the auxiliary power supply

Input of system in a ready state

For input of the SRS system in a ready state perform the following operations:

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Turn the ignition key in position of OFF.
  2. Connect a wire to the negative plug of the battery.
  3. Turn a key in position of ON. Make sure that the alarm lamp of system lit up for 6 - 8 seconds, then went out that confirms serviceability of system.
