Check of a state, removal and installation of a brake disk

Check of a state

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Weaken nuts of fastening of a wheel, a front of the car and establish to a poddomkratta it on props. Remove a wheel.
  2. Remove a brake support (The section Removal, capital repairs and installation of a support of the disk brake mechanism). Now there is no need to disconnect a brake hose from a support (see an illustration). Tie up a support to a suspension bracket element by means of a piece of a wire. Do not allow a tension and twisting of a brake hose. On couple of hairpins of fastening of a wheel fixing washers have to be already established. If is not present, screw on two of them a nut of fastening of a wheel for fixing of a disk.
  3. Check a disk surface for existence of scratches, furrows and other damages. Existence of small scratches and superficial furrows is the normal phenomenon for the disk which was in the use does not exert noticeable impact on efficiency of braking, however, furrows over 0,38 mm in depth demand removal of a disk and carrying out its machine processing in the conditions of a workshop of car service. Do not forget to examine a disk on both sides. If when braking pedal pulsations are felt, it can be a consequence of a beating of a disk. Check also correctness of adjustment of bearings of wheels.
  4. For check of size of a beating of a disk fix the dial indicator of plunger type approximately in 13 mm from the outer edge of a disk and having pressed a plunger to a disk surface. Nullify the device and begin to rotate a disk. Indications of the indicator should not exceed an admissible limit of a beating. Otherwise the disk is subject to a pro-point in a workshop of car service.

Authors of this manual recommend to make a disk pro-point in independence of indications of the measuring instrument (for the purpose of restoration of its surfaces for decrease in the pulsations and other undesirable phenomena when braking directly connected with a condition of a disk). As a last resort, surfaces of a disk can just be processed at least an emery paper, having removed from them polishing traces (making the rotary motions guaranteeing lack of the directed traces against an abrasive on the processed surface).


  1. Determine disk beating size by means of the dial measuring instrument of plunger type - instrument readings should not exceed a beating limit, admissible on Specifications, - otherwise the disk is subject to a pro-point or replacement.
  1. By means of rotary motions remove polishing traces from disk surfaces with an emery paper.
  1. The pro-point of a disk has to be made taking into account its admissible minimum thickness (usually on an internal surface of a disk there is the corresponding marking). Thickness of a disk can be determined by means of a micrometer. If marking is absent, address Specifications to this Chapter.
  1. The minimum admissible thickness of a brake disk can be beaten out (or it is poured out) on its inside.
  1. Measure disk thickness in several points by means of a micrometer.

Removal

  1. Remove two wheel nuts established for fixing of a disk then remove a disk from a nave. If the disk is fixed by washers, special, napressovanny on hairpins, cut off them diagonal nippers and throw out.
  1. If the disk is fixed on a nave by two special washers, cut off them diagonal nippers and throw out.

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Put on a disk the place on hairpins of fastening of a wheel.
  2. Establish assembly of a support with brake shoes (The section Removal, capital repairs and installation of a support of the disk brake mechanism). Tighten bolts of fastening of a support with the required effort.
  3. Establish into place a wheel and lower the car on the earth. Tighten nuts of fastening of a wheel with the required effort.
  4. Several times squeeze out brake for shrinkage of blocks on a disk. To make pumping of the brake system there is no need if of course the brake hose was not disconnected from a support. Before starting operation of the car check serviceability of functioning of the brake system.
