Removal, capital repairs and installation of a support of the disk brake mechanism

The dust produced by brake mechanisms in the course of their work may contain noxious to health asbestos. Do not blow off dust from surfaces of components of brake mechanisms compressed air at all and do not inhale it. It is the best of all to perform works in a protective respiratory mask. Do not use for cleaning of components of brake mechanisms solvents on an oil basis at all or gasolines - use only patent means for cleaning of brakes!

If there is a need for carrying out capital repairs of a support (usually in a consequence of existence of leak of liquid) before getting to work study all possible options of its performance. It is possible to get on an exchange basis fabrichno the restored supports that considerably simplifies a task. If the decision on restoration of an old support is made before beginning work make sure available a special remnabor. Supports are always under repair in pairs - carrying out capital repairs of only one of them is not admissible at all!



  1. Uncover the tank of brake fluid. Suck away (not a mouth) from the tank two thirds of its contents. Merge liquid in a container for the subsequent delivery it in special place of acceptance.
  2. Weaken nuts of fastening of forward wheels, a front of the car and establish to a poddomkratta it on props. Remove forward wheels.
  3. Drown the support piston in the nest (see a picture).

If you are going to remove only a support (and not to make its capital repairs), do not disconnect from it a brake hose. Give a hollow bolt of reception nipple knot of a brake hose and disconnect a hose from a support (see an illustration). Near at hand it is necessary to have rags for collecting the spilled liquid. Wrap up the end of a hose a polyethylene film and fix it by a rubber bandage (or a zakuporta a hose) in order to avoid excessive losses of liquid and hit in system of dirt.

  1. Give two fixing bolts remove a support from the car (Section Replacement of Blocks of Disk Brake Mechanisms). If the support is removed for the purpose of ensuring access to other components, tie up it aside to a suspension bracket element - watch that at the same time the brake hose did not stretch!

Capital repairs


  1. Wipe an external surface of a support with a special cleaner or pure brake fluid. Do not use gasoline, kerosene or solvents on an oil basis at all! Lay a support on a pure workbench.
  2. Enclose in a support as a pillow wooden whetstone or several lumps of rags and squeeze out the piston of the support cylinder compressed air. It is not necessary to increase air supply more, than it is necessary for squeezing of the piston. With too strong pressure the piston, having jumped out it can be damaged, even despite the enclosed pillow.

Do not thrust fingers into space in front of the piston when blowing the last of the cylinder at all - it is fraught with receiving a serious trauma.

  1. Having enclosed a depreciation pillow (wooden whetstone or rags) under the front surface of the piston of a support, squeeze out the piston of the cylinder compressed air - watch that fingers did not get between the piston and a frame of a support (pillow)!

Components of a support of the disk brake mechanism.

  1. By means of the wooden or plastic tool take a cuff from a flute in a support nest Use of metal tools can lead to damage of a mirror of a nest.
  1. The cuff of the piston has to be taken from a nest by means of the wooden or plastic tool in order to avoid damage of a mirror of a nest and/or a flute of a cuff - it is convenient to use a pencil for this purpose.
  1. Turn out the gate of pumping of a support, then remove and throw out plugs of fixing pins. Remember that rubber components are not subject to the repeated use.
  1. Grasp edges of plugs under installation of fixing pins with nippers and, making rotary progress by a hand, take them from support eyes.
  1. Wash out the remained components in a patent cleaner or pure brake fluid, then dry them compressed air.
  2. Carefully check the piston for existence of zadir, agnails or violations of an external covering. In case of detection of defects of a surface the component is subject to replacement.
  3. Subject to similar check a piston nest mirror in a support. Insignificant defects can be eliminated by means of polishing with a thin emery paper. The defective or damaged by corrosion fixing pins of a support are subject to replacement.



  1. At assembly grease a mirror of a nest and a cuff of the piston with pure brake fluid. Establish a cuff in a flute in a nest.
  2. Grease the piston with pure brake fluid, then fill it perpendicularly and crush against the stop in a nest bottom.
  1. At installation of the piston a support before utaplivat it in a nest make sure that it is not warped.
  1. Fill a new boot in a flute on the piston, then accurately put him in a nest.
  1. If there is no possibility of use of the special tool for landing of a boot in a support nest, it is possible to tap accurately it on all perimeter a drift.
  1. Screw the pumping gate.
  2. Install internal and external plugs of pins of fastening of a support
  3. Check fixing pins for existence of signs of excessive corrosion, in case of need make replacement.
  4. Clear and grease plugs of fixing pins of a support (see the illustrations "Take Plugs of Both Fixing Pins..." and "Install Plugs Into Place").
  5. Establish a support.
  6. Connect a brake hose and tighten a hollow bolt of its fastening to a support, having laid new copper washers. Tighten a bolt with the required effort.
  7. If the brake line undocked, do not forget to pump over brakes (Section Pumping of the Brake System).
  8. Establish wheels and lower the car on the earth. Tighten nuts of fastening of wheels with the required effort.
  9. Upon completion of work several times strongly squeeze out a brake pedal for shrinkage of blocks on a disk.
  10. Before starting operation of the car check serviceability of functioning of brakes.
