Removal, capital repairs and installation of a forward power shaft

This procedure is applicable only to models 4WD.

Removal (left or external right power shaft)

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove assembly of a nave of a forward wheel with the bearing (The section Removal, service and installation of a nave and bearings (a forward wheel)). Remove a board of the disk brake mechanism.
  1. Remove a board of the disk brake mechanism.
  1. Holding a power shaft parallel to a bridge axis, take out it from a bridge sleeve. Try not to damage at the same time the shaft epiploon located on the internal end of a sleeve where the shaft the, equipped with vents end enters differential.
  1. After removal of assembly of a nave the power shaft can be taken from a bridge sleeve, trying to hold it coaxially to the last.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Follow indications of the Section Replacement of Cardan Hinges, but pay attention that lock rings are established in ears of the holder of a crosspiece and are drowned in flutes of covers of bearings. Rings are taken by a poddevaniye by their screw-driver.

  1. Push out lock rings from flutes in bearings of the cardan hinge by means of the small screw-driver.

The external CV hinge of a forward power shaft is not subject to repair - in case of wear or damage replacement of all assembly is made. However, the hinge can and has to be sorted, cleaned and filled by fresh lubricant in case of damage of a protective cover.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Cut off both bandages of fastening of a protective cover of the hinge, remove and throw out them. Shift a cover on a shaft back.
  2. Clamp a power shaft in a vice. Between sponges of a vice and shaft in order to avoid damage of the last the rags have to be laid. By means of the hammer and the brass drift established on an internal holder beat out the hinge from a shaft.
  1. Bring down assembly of the CV hinge from a power shaft by means of the hammer and a brass drift (do not allow assembly falling!).
  1. Take a power shaft from a vice. Clamp in a vice assembly of the hinge (a pin down). Again take care of protection of a surface of a pin against damage by sponges of a vice. Knock on an internal holder with a brass drift, having inclined it enough for a possibility of extraction of a ball of the bearing. Repeat the procedure so far all balls will not be taken. For extraction from a separator of the "stuck" balls use the screw-driver.
  1. Incline an internal holder, having provided a possibility of extraction of the first ball - use a brass drift.
  1. In case of need take the "stuck" balls by means of the screw-driver.
  1. After extraction of all balls incline assembly of an internal holder with a separator under 90 °, achieve combination of windows of a separator with the acting platforms of an external holder (the hinge case) and take assembly from an external holder.
  1. Incline assembly of an internal holder with a separator on 90 °, then achieve combination of windows of a separator with platforms on internal walls of the case of the hinge, turn and take assembly from the case.
  1. Pass one of ledges of an internal holder throughout a window of a separator and, having turned, take a holder from a separator.
  1. Pass one of ledges of an internal holder throughout a separator window, then turn a holder and take it from a separator.
  1. Wash out all components in solvent and dry them by means of compressed air (in the presence of access to a source of that). Check a separator and holders for existence of cavities, scratches, cracks and other signs of damage and wear. Existence of sites, zapolirovanny to gloss, is admissible and does not exert impact on operation of the CV hinge.
  1. Check ledges and deepenings of an internal holder of the hinge for existence of cavities and scratches.
  1. Examine a separator on existence of cracks, cavities and scratches (existence of zapolirovanny places is admissible and does not make negative impact on operation of the CV hinge).
  1. Insert an internal holder into a separator, working as it should be, the return described in item 9.
  2. Establish assembly of a separator with an internal holder in an external holder of the hinge (act as it should be, the return offered in item 8). The separator has to be installed in the hinge case by the party of smaller diameter outside, and the lock flute of an internal holder has to be turned in the hinge.
  3. Insert balls into separator windows.
  1. Having achieved combination of windows of a separator with flutes under installation of balls in internal and external holders, incline a separator with an internal holder, serially inserting into them balls.
  1. Fill assembly of the CV hinge lubricant, having squeezed out in its internal, equipped with vents opening, half of contents attached to a remnabor for (CV hinges and their covers) capacities. Crush lubricant in the bearing, having filled wooden whetstone in the opening equipped with vents and having entered it against the stop into a hinge bottom. Repeat the procedure, trying to obtain high-quality stuffing of the hinge (the second half of contents of capacity leave for stuffing in a hinge cover).
  1. Fill the hinge lubricant through the opening equipped with vents in an internal holder; crush lubricant in the hinge by means of wooden whetstone corresponding diameter, entering the last against the stop into a hinge bottom.
  1. Wrap up the part of a power shaft equipped with vents an insulating tape in order to avoid damage of a protective cover of the hinge. Establish smaller diameter a bandage of fastening of a cover in a flute on smaller diameter to the party of a cover, then pull a cover on a power shaft. Remove an insulating tape and squeeze out the rest of the lubricant attached to a remnabor in a cover.
  2. Establish replaceable lock and remote rings on a shaft.
  3. Put on a shaft the CV hinge so that the internal holder made contact with an internal lock ring.
  4. Establish in the flute on a cover a fixing bandage of bigger diameter and pull a cover on an external holder (case) of the hinge.
  5. Tighten bandages.

Installation

You make installation upside-down. If the intermediate shaft of a two-level power shaft was removed, establish new laying on a differential cover and fill in in differential oil of the required grade (The head Nastroyki and routine maintenance).
