General information

The transfer case represents the device serving for transfer of rotation of the engine to forward and back driveshafts. Models of the make of the car described in this manual are equipped with the transfer case of one of the listed below types made by New Process:

  • NP231 represents the transfer case of partial not full-temporary type with the lowering reducer (Sleck-trac).
  • NP242 is a full box of not full-temporary type with four modes of functioning (Command-trec). The box provides the movement of the car in the mode both 2WD, and 4WD and is equipped with the mechanism of blocking of differentials at the movement in the all-wheel drive mode on the lowering and raising transfers. The lowering reducer provides increase in power at low turns of rotation.
  • NP249 represents constantly switched on transfer case with two modes of functioning and a possibility of the transfer to neutral situation (Quadra-trac). The modes provided with a box include the mode 4H and 4L (4L it is intended for development of high traction effort at towage of the heavy trailer in cross-country conditions). Rotation of the engine is distributed between forward and back bridges of the car through the differential and the viscous coupling which are a part of the transfer case. NP249 is also equipped with the lowering reducer for increase in power at the slow movement on off road terrain.
