Replacement of an epiploon

Leak of transmission liquid most often results from wear of an epiploon of lengthening of a case of transmission or the transfer case (model 4WD) and/or sealing rings of the sensor of a speed/nozzle of a speedometer. Procedures of replacement of these epiploons and sealing rings are rather simple as they do not demand removal of transmission, or the transfer case (all-wheel drive models) from the car.

Epiploon of lengthening of a case / transfer case

The epiploon of lengthening of a case is located in an extreme back point of a case of transmission or the transfer case where the driveshaft is connected to them. If there are suspicions on leaks through this epiploon, the car and establish to a poddomkratta it on props. If the epiploon really leaks, on a forward part of the driveshaft there will be traces of transmission liquid. Liquid can also drip from a back part of transmission / the transfer case.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the driveshaft (The head Stsepleniye and the transmission line).
  2. By means of the hammer with soft brisk carefully bring down back the dustproof screen (if such is provided) and remove it from transmission. Try not to bend the screen.
  3. Having carefully hooked a special stripper, take an epiploon from a back part of transmission / the transfer case. Try not to damage vents of a secondary shaft of transmission.

  1. If the epiploon does not manage to be taken by means of the screw-driver or mount, use a special stripper (ask in shops of automobile accessories).

  1. Having used a piece of a pipe or very deep replaceable head as a drift, establish a new epiploon. Track that he completely sat down in the nest.

  1. Install the dustproof screen, having accurately begun to knock it. Grease vents of a secondary shaft of transmission the outer side of the sliding coupling of the holder of a crosspiece with light lubricant, then install into place the driveshaft. Try not to damage sponges of a new epiploon in the course of installation of the driveshaft.

Sealing rings of the sensor of speed of the car (VSS)/nozzle of a speedometer

Assembly of VSS/nozzle of a speedometer is located on the left sidewall of lengthening of a case of transmission on models 2WD, or on a back wall of the transfer case on models 4WD. For definition of signs of leaks through a sealing ring examine a casing of a driving cable on existence of traces of transmission liquid.

Assembly of VSS/nozzle of a speedometer is located on a back wall of the transfer case (the models 4WD shown in a picture) or on the left wall of lengthening of a case of transmission on models 2WD. For removal of assembly disunite the electric socket (1), mark the provision of assembly in relation to a case (2), then give a bolt (3).


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disunite the electric VSS socket.
  2. If you assume to establish into place an old nozzle of a speedometer, mark its situation in relation to the surface of lengthening of a case of transmission or the transfer case; If the nozzle is replaced, at installation new it is necessary to take care of the correct orientation of its digital index - see below (item 16).
  3. Give a bolt of fastening of the sensor and a clip of a nozzle.
  4. Remove VSS and a nozzle of a speedometer.
  5. Examine VSS socket probes. In case of need they can be smoothed out by means of special aerosols for cleaning of electric contacts.
  6. Remove old sealing rings from the sensor and from a nozzle.
  7. Carefully smooth out the interfaced surfaces of a flange of a nozzle and a case - it is necessary for the purpose of the correct centering of a nozzle at its installation.
  8. Establish sealing rings on VSS and a nozzle.
  1. By means of the small screw-driver or a core with a hook on the end (as shown in a picture) remove old sealing rings; try not to damage surfaces of flutes under their installation.

  1. Grease sealing rings of the sensor and a nozzle with transmission liquid.
  2. Establish VSS in a speedometer nozzle. Tighten the fixing screw with the required effort.
  3. Establish a speedometer gear wheel in a nozzle.
  4. If the new nozzle is established, before installation it assembled with the sensor (VSS) count quantity of teeth on a speedometer gear wheel.
  5. Grease gear wheel teeth with transmission liquid.
  6. Establish assembly of VSS with a nozzle in lengthening of a case of transmission or the transfer case.
  7. If the old nozzle is established, just take care of combination of the landing tags (put in the course of dismantle) on a flange of a nozzle and a surface of a case of lengthening of transmission / the transfer case. At installation of a new nozzle follows, rotating it, to achieve that the numerical index applied on its surfaces which value corresponds to quantity of teeth of a gear wheel was turned in situation for 6 hours.
  1. The numerical indexes on a speedometer nozzle wall corresponding to various quantity of teeth of a gear wheel of a speedometer (on different models gear wheels of various types can be used); at installation the index corresponding to number of teeth of the gear wheel of a speedometer applied on this car has to be turned in situation for 6 hours.
  1. Establish a clip of a nozzle of a speedometer and the fixing screw. Tighten the clip screw with the required effort.
  2. Connect the electric socket.
  3. Remove jacks and lower the car on the earth.
  4. Make trial runs, having checked work of a speedometer, then make sure of lack of signs of leaks through an epiploon of lengthening of a case of transmission / the transfer case and sealing rings of VSS/nozzle of a speedometer.
