Diagnostics of malfunctions - the general information

Refusals of AT can happen for five main reasons to which bad overall performance of the engine, violation of adjustments, malfunction of hydraulics, the mechanical reasons or failure of a control system (processor) belong. Diagnostics of all problems connected with AT has to begin with check of the most easily removed causes as that: level and condition of transmission liquid (Head Nastroyki and routine maintenance), adjustment of draft of gear shifting and adjustment of draft of change of provision of a butterfly valve. Further it is necessary to carry out trial runs for the purpose of check of elimination of a problem during the previous corrections. If it was not succeeded to rectify faults nevertheless, further, fuller, it is necessary to leave diagnostics of AT to experts. Primary checks


  1. During a trip warm up transmission up to the normal working temperature.
  2. Check the level of transmission liquid (The head Nastroyki and routine maintenance):
    • If the level of liquid is unusually small, add its necessary quantity (on the measuring probe), then check transmission for existence of signs of external leaks.
    • If liquid level, on the contrary, is excessively high, check the merged surplus for existence of signs of pollution by a cooler. Presence at transmission liquid of a cooler of the engine is a sign of damage of the internal walls of a radiator separating the tanks filled with transmission liquid from the main cavity of a radiator (The head of the Cooling system, heating and air conditioning).
    • If liquid foaming takes place, merge it and replace, then check the merged liquid for hit of a cooler in it. Check the level of filling of transmission.
  3. Check turns of idling of the engine.

If failures of the engine take place, it is not necessary to start performance of primary checks before full elimination of their reasons.

  1. Check freedom of the course of draft of the drive of change of provision of a butterfly valve in the mode kik-Down. In case of need make adjustment (The section Description, replacement and adjustment of a cable of the drive of a butterfly valve in the mode kik-Down (TV cable)).

Draft of the drive of the gate in the mode kik-Down can normally function at the switched-off and cold engine, however give refusal after its warming up. Check functioning of draft both at cold, and at the engine warmed up to the normal working temperature.

  1. Check functioning of draft of the drive of gear shifting (Section Check of a State and Adjustment of a Cable of Switching). Make sure of correctness of adjustment and smoothness of the course of draft.

Check of leak of transmission liquid

The most part of leak of transmission liquid can be revealed in the visual way. Repair usually consists in replacement of an epiploon or laying. If it is not possible to find a leak source, implementation of the procedure offered below can help.


  1. Identify liquid. Make sure that traces of transmission liquid are found, but not motive oil or brake fluid (AT liquid has dark red coloring).
  2. Try to establish a leak source. Make on the car a short trip (of several km), then park it, having stopped over the leaf of a cardboard outspread on the earth. Several minutes later the source of leak can be established on the drops falling on a cardboard.
  3. Carefully examine the suspected component and a surface directly around it. Pay special attention to the surfaces interfaced through laying. Often useful at visual survey is an application of a small pocket mirror.
  4. If the leak source still does not manage to be revealed, carefully clear the suspected surface with use of degreaser or solvent, then dry it.
  5. Again make a short trip for warming up of transmission up to the normal working temperature, banishing transmission during it through provisions of all transfers. After a stop make visual survey of the suspect of a component again.
  6. After the source of leak is established, it is necessary to find out and remove the cause of its emergence. If to replace laying, having left a flange deformed, leak in the near future will arise again. Curved flanges have to be surely aligned.
  7. Before starting elimination of the reason of leak make sure of performance of the listed below conditions as their non-performance can lead to fast renewal of leaks.

Some of the listed below conditions cannot be executed without use of special tools and conducting thorough deep examination. It is necessary to leave elimination of such problems to specialists of dealer office or a workshop of car service.

Leaks through defective laying

Regularly you make external survey of the pallet of a case of transmission. Check existence and reliability of tightening of bolts, a condition of laying and lack of deformations of the pallet (existence on the pallet of dents can be a sign of damage of the case of the valve which is in it).

Excessive increase in level and/or pressure of transmission liquid can be the cause of leak of liquid through laying of the pallet of a case. The ventilating tube can be corked, bolts of fastening of the pallet can be drawn, the probability of deformation of a flange of the pallet or damage of the transmission case surface interfaced to it is not excluded. Leak can be a consequence of damage of the laying or formation of cracks or cavities to casting of a case. If laying was created from sealant, sealant not of that grade was quite perhaps used.

Leaks through epiploons

Also the excessive level or pressure of liquid or obstruction of ventilation can be the cause of leaks through an epiploon. Damage of a contact surface of a nest of an epiploon or the shaft passing through an epiploon is not excluded, it can be damaged or incorrectly also the epiploon is established. Weakening of the bearing can lead to emergence of excessive fight of a shaft that also leads to emergence of leaks through an epiploon.

Make sure that sealing laying of a tube of the measuring probe is in satisfactory condition, and the tube correctly is put in a case. Regularly check a surface around an arrangement of a driving gear wheel or the sensor of a speedometer for existence of signs of leaks. In the presence of traces of transmission liquid, check a condition of a sealing ring.

Leaks through a case

If there are signs of leaks through actually case of transmission, then perhaps in its casting there were cavities or cracks. The case has to be repaired or replaced.

Make sure that nipple connections of cooling hoses are in satisfactory condition and are reliably tightened.

Liquid follows through a ventilating tube or a tube of a jellied mouth

If it occurs, transmission is crowded and it is possible to speak about hit in cooler liquid, existence of cavities in casting of the boat, the wrong landing of the measuring probe, obstruction of a ventilating tube or returnable drain openings.
